Watch Hugh remove mylar from the playfield of his Twilight Zone Pinball Machine. This is a diamond plate playfield with a eurothane based clear on it. So, in theory, you shouldn't really hurt the artwork when carefully pealing up the mylar. Hugh recommends removing mylar before restoring your pinball machine. He uses canned air but notes that you can also use "freeze spray" from an electronic store. The mylar on his Twilight Zone Pinball Machine has a bubble in it and he aims the canned air (upside down) so it goes under the bubble. He then uses a plastic razor blade to carefully peal up the edge of the mylar. Spray, wait, peel (repeat).
Pin Dude has removed the mylar on a few pinball machines - although none of them went this quickly! Make sure you wear something to cover your mouth - the "canned air" now has a bitterent in it that tastes nasty. This was added to keep people from huffing from the can.
